The residents in Buffalo, New York, are left in confusion of what caused the boarded-up Buffalo State Hospital to be engulfed in flames literally over night. Shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, firefighters rushed to the site. When they noticed the flames coming out of the second-story windows, the called for some backup.
The hospital, which has been abandoned since the 1970s, proved to be a challenge for the firefighters due to its weak structure. Buffalo Fire Division Chief Jack Hess said,
“It was the last property I wanted to have on fire because we haven’t been in here for years. You don’t know what the condition of the buildings are.”
He also added,
“Even while the fire was free burning, some of the masonry on the outside collapsed right near some firefighters that were busy on the outside.”
Luckily, Chief Hess said that some firefighters narrowly missed getting hit by crumbling debris and no one was injured. However, the damage is estimated to be about $200,000. The Richardson Center Corporation released a statement saying,
“We are saddened by the building damage but are glad no one was hurt. Work to seal up the building will tale place and we will continue to advance the first phase of development.”

Don’t worry! You may have noticed today that the Ghostly World menu is missing pages…this is NOT true! We have installed a custom menu (finally!) to our site, and it has taken effect today, February 24th, 2013. A new page, “Articles”, has also been added. We’re taking posts that aren’t really good for the paranormal database section and moving their content into pages. The old, unused posts will be archived away for safe keeping. We’re making way for a better Ghostly World!
Question to the Readers: Do you like the new menu?
Ghostly World’s subsite, Our Ghostly World, is getting a new look as of today. The posts will be written with different content than regular Ghostly World’s…more personalized ghost stories and more of an insight on the haunting. We hope to see you there!
